Junior Tennis Championship underway in Accra

The second edition of the Oddoye Memorial Junior Open Tennis Championship to tap and develop the talents of juvenile players in the country will end on Saturday.

The championship, which showcases tennis players between eight and 14 years, will have players such as Akosua Tenkorang, Naa Ahima McKorley and Kenneth Adjokatse contesting.

The others are Yakubu Lea, Michael Dosoo, Amos Asante, Anna Gariba and Aaron Asante who will battle for honours in various categories such as the Under-10, 12, 14 and 16 categories for both boys and girls.

The event is sponsored by the Oddoye Family and organised in honour of the late Gottfried Tawia Oddoye, the former Chairman of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).

The six-day event is organised by the Accra Lawn Tennis Club in collaboration with the Ghana Tennis Association.

According to the organisers, the championship is expected to hone the skills of young players while encouraging them to focus on their education.

Mr Peter Annan, the Tournament Coordinator, said winners will take home trophies and attractive prizes for their work.
