Junior Graphic essay workshop held in Sunyani

The Junior Graphic, a weekly paper of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), has organised an essay writing workshop for upper primary pupils and junior high school students from selected schools in and around Sunyani.

The workshop was aimed at sharpening the writing skills of  the schoolchildren to enable them to write good essays particularly at the next level, which is the regional level, to enable them to qualify for the national level of the essay competition launched by the paper earlier this year.

The essay competition is designed to help address the declining interest in reading by children and improve their vocabulary.

In all, 144 pupils and students from five selected schools took part in the workshop.

The schools include St James Primary School, His Grace International School, Ayakomaso Methodist Basic School, Glory Kindercare Learning Complex and Sunyani Adventist Preparatory School.

The participants were taken through techniques such as writing formal, informal and semi-formal letters among others.

An English teacher at the Sunyani Senior High School, Mr John Essel Mensah, educated the children on the do’s and don’ts in essay writing.

A staff of the Marketing Department of the GCGL, Miss Rachel Pearl Addy,  advised teachers to assist students to write their essays instead of writing it for them, explaining that during the national competition, participants would write the essays independently.

Interested students are expected to purchase a copy of the Junior Graphic and fill a coupon which they will cut from the paper and attach it to their essays.
