Jael Wiafe — I yearned for dad’s attention

Growing up in a beautiful home and family, Jael adored her father so much that when he stopped giving her the necessary love and attention she needed, it shattered her world.

She felt hurt and rejected and this somehow caused so much pain in her life that all she could think of was to look for the love she felt she wasn't getting at home elsewhere.

It was in the pursuit of that love that her life became a mess.

She was just looking for love in all the wrong places which allowed bad people into her life to abuse her in all sorts of ways.

Jael became wayward and started leading a very reckless life. Nobody in her family and at school understood her but she was just a young child suffering silently from all the hurt and abuse she had been through.

She felt very lonely and even tried to commit suicide at the age of 14 but her parents intervened  and God saved her. She later gave her life to Christ and is now an anointed and powerful gospel musician who wins souls for Christ.

In an interview with the Junior Graphic to share her experiences, Ms Jael Wiafe said when her father realised there was something much deeper than he could figure out worrying her they talked extensively and he promised to love her always and give her all the attention she needed as his daughter.

Jael said everything seemed to be going on well for her because she had won back her father's favour,  “just as we were about to start our beautiful relationship all over again, he travelled to England and died.” This, she said shattered her life and sent her out of control.

She felt God had betrayed her and out of anger towards God, she sank deeper and deeper into rebellion.

“In spite of this God had better plans for me and He met me  at my lowest point and saved me from self-destruction to become one of the young women God is using to deliver His children from the clutches of evil”, she added.

Jael  believes that "if God forgives you for so much, you have to love others so much" and your mess in life will always become a message that God will use to bless other lives.

She was the sixth of her father’s children and the first child of her mother, Ms Elizabeth Ofori, a teacher. Her  father was Mr W.O Wiafe,  a rich timber merchant. According to her, she never lacked materially as a child. She attended Morning Star School at Cantonments, Accra, and was a brilliant pupil.

Jael started school in Nursery Two. She said her Class Two teacher , Mrs Arthur,  was loving and kind and always encouraged her to study. “And you know what, the principles Mrs Arthur taught me, even though I was young then, has really shaped my life to this day,” she said with a smile.

After completing Morning Star School, she gained admission to the Accra Girls’ SHS but was moved to Achimota Secondary School to complete her secondary education.  It was in secondary school that Jael discovered her flair for singing so she joined the school band. Today she has five albums and is working on an international album which has a track with the world’s biggest gospel reggae dancehall artiste, Papa San.

She is an author, an evangelist , a philanthropist, a business woman among others. The first book she published, "The Bleeding Heart " has healed a lot of broken and wounded hearts.

Jael has a recreational and empowerment centre where she allows God to use her to build up lives both spiritually, and physically.
