Graphic, MoneyGram present prizes to competition winners
The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) and MoneyGram, a global money transfer service, have awarded six children who excelled in the MoneyGram Essay competition held in Accra.

The two companies gave out a total of GH¢7,500 and learning materials to the winners.
Winners
Josephine Mame Efua Afful, a pupil of the St Martin De Porres School, Dansoman, who was adjudged the winner of the competition, received a cheque for GH¢2,500 and some learning materials.
Mr Kelvin Sam Ketu Kojo from the Santé Barbara School; Ms Ann Yaa Sarfo from the Ridge Church School; Mr David Amoah Segoe, from the Englerbert School; Mrs Abigail Fetwah Owusuwah from the Martyrs of Uganda School and Wilhelma Afia Kra Appiah from the Happy Kids School took home GH¢1000 each and learning materials from MoneyGram.
Purpose of the competition
The MoneyGram Essay Competition, which is organised annually, aims to encourage children to read and develop the attitude of writing.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, a representative of MoneyGram, Mr Ato Baiden, said partnering the GCGL, especially the Junior Graphic, was to help expand the competition nationwide to encourage effective participation of children.
Mr Baiden commended the GCGL for its support towards a successful competition.
He urged the winners to continue reading and writing to participate in upcoming essay competitions.
“The education level in the country is not improving because reading and writing is not practised effectively in the house and at schools,” he said.
He further urged readers of the Junior Graphic, parents and teachers to work together to promote reading and writing among children.
The Assistant Editor of the Junior Graphic, Ms Victoria Odoi, entreated parents to patronise the Junior Graphic for their children to enable them to develop interest in reading and writing.
Ms Odoi said another competition would soon be organised by the company and encouraged children to participate in the programme to win attractive prizes.
