2,100 Children compete in Kiddy Mile Race

About 2,100 schoolchildren from 40 private basic schools in Accra took part in the Third Edition of the Kiddy Mile Race held at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

The event, which is geared towards promoting good health and well-being, saw the children compete to the admiration of their parents and siblings.

They were between the ages of three and 15.

The one-day event began with an aerobics session in a fun-filled atmosphere to warm them up for the main events.

With their parents cheering them on, the children participated fiercely in the 0.2 mile race for three to four-year-olds, 0.5 mile race for five to six-year-olds, 0.75 mile race for seven to eight-year-olds, the one mile race for nine to 10-year-olds,1.5 mile race for the Under 12 group and the two-mile race for those under 15.

According to the Race Director of Kiddy Mile Race, Mrs Cathy Morton, the annual event centred on running, and aimed at unearthing talents and promoting the Sustainable Development Goal Number Three which focused on healthy lives for all ages.

Medals and products from the sponsors of the event were presented to participants who took the first to fifth positions in the various categories for boys and girls.

Other participants received medals for competing.

Side attractions included basket ball and table tennis tournaments, sack race, mini golf, mini pool and PS 4 Competition.

Parents were not left out as they competed in the Blue Band Mummy and Me race.
