GAW organises workshop for students

Students from selected public senior high schools (SHSs) in the three northern regions have attended a workshop aimed at enhancing their reading and writing skills.

The workshop, which formed part of the Ghana Association of Writers School Outreach Programme (GAWSOP), was also aimed at collecting articles, poems and short stories from the students for publication in the association’s magazine for students known as GAWSOP Filla.

Organised by the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW), the students were taken through poetry writing, story writing and techniques in essay writing.

In an interview with the Administrator of GAW, Mr Ebo Assan Donkoh, he said similar workshops would be organised for SHS students from other regions, adding that after the workshops, the association, with the support of the Ghana Association of Teachers of English (GATE), would select the five best articles, poems and short stories submitted by students from each region.

The Association would later liaise with some radio stations in the respective regions for those articles to be read by the students themselves on air. Subsequently, the articles would be published in some newspapers, he added.

Mr Donkoh, therefore, advised students to show interest in writing in order to become great writers in future.
