The Ga East Municipal Education Directorate in collaboration with UNICEF and USAID has organised a reading festival for lower primary pupils in both public and private schools.

The schoolchildren were selected from the Abokobi, Kwabenya, Dome, Taifa and Atomic Hills circuits.

The theme for the programme was: ‘Reading is fun; let’s read’.

Addressing the pupils, a former Municipal Director of Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Madam Florence Esi Damali, encouraged the schoolchildren to read a lot of books and also take note of new words they came across and use them in their work so that those words would become part of their vocabulary.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Janet Tulasi Mensah, advised the pupils to take their reading seriously to enable them to broaden their horizon.

The pupils were taken through pronunciations, spelling, reading of story books and poetry recitals. They also engaged in activities such as charade and pick-and-act.
