Fun galore at West Hills Mall

The West Hills Mall at Weija in Accra came alive on New Year’s Day when thousands of holidaymakers thronged there to have fun.

The crowd was mainly children who had gone there with their parents and siblings from almost every part of Accra.

They were in very beautiful outfits, which clearly depicted the joyful mood of the children. Some of the girls who were in skirts and blouse adorned their hair with colourful ribbons while others matched their dresses with brightly coloured Christmas hats.

Quite a number of the children also wore beautifully designed African print dresses or blouses to match skinny jeans trousers.

As usual, the boys were in their jeans and colourful Lacoste or T-shirts. Interestingly, most of the boys were dressed mimicking their dad’s as they had matching outfits.

Indeed, the scene at the mall could be likened to a carnival and shop owners cashed in on the situation by hiking the prices of items, as well as the gate fees to the playgrounds.

Although some parents complained bitterly about the GH¢ 25.00 gate fee to the playgrounds, they didn’t have any other option but to join the long queues to pay up because it was a day to show love to their children and make them have fun.

Freda Ahiabor, a pupil of the Bediako Memorial Institute at Kasoa, said although she was unable to come over to the mall with her friends, she was not bored at all because she made new friends right there and really enjoyed herself.

She remarked, “My friends have missed a lot, I will tell them all the interesting things when I get home.’’

At the playgrounds there were bouncy castles, swings, face painting, poolside games and many other exciting activities such as the live band musicals, which gave many the opportunity to dance their hearts out.

There were so many fun games available that some of the children were actually in a dilemma as to which one to begin with.

For most of the children, the actual fun was at the playgrounds but the few who were inside the malls and had not experienced using the escalator had fun as they moved up and down amid giggles and laughter.

Some others, who would not allow the day to end without actually having something concrete to reminisce about, took photo shoots in a studio.

It was, indeed, a joyous occasion and every child would wish the day never ended.
