Don't write BECE in JHS Two
The Director in charge of Basic Education, Mr Stephen Adu has warned junior high students not to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination while in Form Two because their results would be cancelled if detected.

He said it was compulsory as well as a constitutional requirement for every student to go through nine years of basic education before continuing to senior high school.
Mr Adu made this clear in an interview with the Junior Graphic on the relevance of the continuous assessment of
junior high students explaining that the assessment was for the period students were in basic school. He, however, expressed concern at the way some heads of schools filled the assessment forms of their students.
He pointed out that some did not provide the right marks of most students and thus often raised suspicions in the final exams of candidates.
“ One thing people do not know is that when WAEC is in doubt of the continuous assessment marks of candidates because of the big differences between that and the final examination score, it uses its statistical tool known as “moderation” to award marks to such candidates.
The director has, therefore, urged all teachers and heads to do a good job by giving students what they truly deserve.
He said in due course, the Ghana Education Service (GES) would come out with appropriate sanctions for heads who register unqualified students for the BECE.
Mr Richard Ayitey, the National Examination and Council Participation Coordinator, urged all heads and students, particularly to work hard since the WAEC had its own technical way of adding the continuous assessment marks to the final examination marks.
The Headmistress of the Ave Maria Preparatory School, Madam Florence Agordjor, said she was very particular about the continuous assessment of pupils, adding that “I take samples of assignments of pupils to check and ensure the right thing is done.”
