This is to enable the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat to go ahead with the placement procedure for successful students to start school before the end of September.

Currently, the secretariat is busy sorting out the data of candidates so that when the raw scores from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) are received, the placement exercise can be undertaken without any delays.

The National Co-ordinator, Mr Samuel Oppong, who was speaking with the Junior Graphic, disclosed that apart from the results the secretariat was waiting for, his outfit was going round senior high schools (SHSs) collecting data on the number of students the various headmasters/headmistresses could accept for admission.

"Although the two groups of SHS students graduated in May this year, some of the school heads are not willing to accept large numbers of students as they say they do not want to keep over-stretching their facilities," he said.

Mr Oppong indicated that because the BECE timetable was changed  from April to June, the secretariat had to work hard to ensure that students do not go to school late, as used to happen in the past.

“This year, students were allowed to select five schools of their choice, to enable them to automatically gain admission to schools if they obtained good grades,” he explained.

In an interview, the Head of Test Administration of WAEC, Mr Felix Akuffo-Badoo, disclosed that WAEC had to work on the WASSCE papers before moving on to mark the BECE.

“In the past, BECE was written before WASSCE but because of the change in the BECE timetable, things have changed.

He, however, assured that the council will do its best to ensure that the BECE results do not delay.
