The laboratory, which consists 10 brand-new computers with accessories and educational manuals, table and chairs valued at GH¢5,000, was sponsored by Nana Fe-Baamoah II, the Chief of Asokwa.

At the inaugration of the laboratory, the chief presented a cheque for GH¢3,630 to cover the school fees of 240 pupils for this academic year.

Nana Fe-Baamoah said the computer laboratory was meant to complement efforts of the Ministry of Education to ensure the improvement of ICT education among the pupils.

He explained to the Junior Graphic that he believed children should be given the opportunity to learn practical ICT from the basic level before they reached junior high school.

According to him, that was the only way to bridge the teaching and learning gap between pupils in deprived communities and their privileged colleagues in the urban areas.

Described by various speakers as the development partner to the school and pupils living in the Asokwa community, over the last two years, Nana Fe-Boamoah  has been paying  the school fees of pupils  from his community who are enrolled in schools at Amankwatia, Amakom, New Asafo and the TI Ahmadiyya Primary One and Two schools in Kumasi.

He described the children in the area as pupils willing and prepared to learn, hence his decision to spend his fortune  in ensuring that they had quality, accessible and affordable education.

Mrs Lucy Osei Ahenkorah, the Headmistress of the Asokwa school, lauded the singular effort of Nana Fe-Baamoah in advancing the infrastructural development of the school.

She said the computer laboratory  would boost the practical ICT education among the pupils.

She called for public support and encouragement to promote quality education at the school.
