Instead of the usual practice of appointing prefects for the school, it is now mandatory for the school to hold elections to elect its leaders.

Subsequently, with the assistance of the Electoral Commission, 30 pupils filed their nominations for the nine positions on offer, after which an electoral college comprising 260 pupils voted to elect the prefects.

The contestants were selected by a special committee after a stringent vetting process, which was followed by manifesto reading and campaigning.

At the end of the exercise, Kennedy B. Asare shocked everyone to win the Head Boy position, to be assisted by Jamal A. Mumuni.

Blessed Yaa Boateng is the new Head Girl after shrugging off competition from Ohemaa A. Bekoe, (who became her assistant), and Frances M. Yawson.

The Head of Protocol position went to Hilda Amoah, with Adjarkor Dorh as her assistant.

The Executive Director of the AGA School, Dr Kwabena B. Tandoh, told the Junior Graphic that the exercise was to teach the pupils the values of honesty and participatory democracy.

He said the issue of the reintroduction of Civic Education into Ghana’s educational curriculum needed to be seriously looked at to build a strong and better society.

The programme had the endorsement of the school board, which includes Dr Doris Dartey, a former Board Chairperson of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL).
