Mr Sah said the best interest of the child should be paramount at all times in any matter concerning them.

The celebration was on the theme: “Acceleration, Protection, Empowerment and Equal Opportunities for Children in Africa by 2030.” The participants were drawn from six  basic schools in the Kadjebi District in the Volta Region.

The  annual celebration of the African Union Day of the African Child, which comes off on June 16 every year, has been celebrated since 1991 when it was first initiated by the then Organisation of African Union (OAU). The celebration was to recognise the relevant roles played by the African child and the call for action against the neglect of some children.

In connection with this, Action Aid Ghana, in partnership with NOCID, marked the event to highlight the right of children to live and thrive in a safe environment.

Mr Sah said, “No person shall discriminate against a child on the grounds of gender, race, age, religion, disability, health status, ethnic origin, rural or urban background, birth, socio-economic status or because the child is a refugee.”

He said the focus of their work was to ensure that the rights of excluded people, as well as those living in poverty were respected and remained fulfilled.

The Programmes Officer of NOCID, Madam Agnes Obour, advised the pupils to learn hard to justify the investment government and their parents were making in them.

The NOCID is a Kadjebi-based non-governmental organisation.
