Ablekuma Central wins inter-sub-metro athletics

The Ablekuma Central Sub-metro has emerged winners of the inter-sub metro athletics competition for basic schools.

The one-day competition, which was held at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, had Ablekuma Central placing first amassing 150 points in both the Boys and Girls events.

Ablekuma Central recorded 65 points in the Boys Division while the girls won with 85 points.

Basic school athletes from Ablekuma South came second with 126 points; 63 for the boys and 63 for the girls.The Okaikoi Sub-metro, which in the past had been glued to the bottom of the table, surprised the pundits by making history when it placed third in the overall standings.

The Okaikoi Sub-metro had 94.5 points; 56 for the girls and 38.5 for the boys.

Ablekuma North and Okaikoi North took the fourth and fifth positions with 77 and 69 points while Ayawaso West and Ayawaso Central shared the sixth and seventh positions with 64.5 points each.

The eighth to tenth positions were taken by Ayawaso East, Osu Klottey and Ashiedu Keteke sub-metros. They recorded 29, 27 and five points respectively.

The contestants competed in events such as 100 metres, 200 metres, long jump, triple jump and the 1,500 race.
