Abeiku Jackson shines at Commonwealth Youth Games

Sensational teenage swimmer, Abeiku Gyekye Jackson, has made a huge impact on his handlers after he placed fifth in the 50 metres Butterfly event at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassua Bahamas, even though he was unsuccessful in grabbing a medal.

Jackson, a former student of Soul Clinic Junior High School finished in 25.07 seconds in the race which was won by Alexander Scott McClay of Scotland.

Dylan Longhai Koo, Fraser Lewis Ward and Halpewaththaga Peiris placed second, third and fourth respectively.

The 17-year-old Ghanaian, who is Ghana's trailblazer in the sport, qualified for the finals after recording a time of 25.12 seconds.

Jackson also competed in the boys’ 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly during the competition.

Jackson, who participated in the 2016 Olympic Games was part of the 12-member Ghanaian contingent of teenagers in Bahamas for the Games which took place between July 19 and 23 at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre in Nassau.

The other athletes included fellow swimmer, Kaya Forson, tennis players, Emmanuel Nyan Plange and Marian Ibrahim; 400-metre runner, Rafiatu Nuhu; beach volley players, Kelvin Katey Carboo and Eric Tsatsu; cyclists Solomon Tagoe and Gabriel Tettey; boxers,  Alfred Kotey and Philip Quartey as well as judoka, Emmanuel Kemevor.
