3 Students excel in spelling contest

Master Peter Manu Aboagye of the Association Community Model Basic School emerged the winner of the second edition of the Aspire to Bee Spelling Competition held in Accra.

At the end of the competition, Aboagye had 12 points as against Jessica Borquaye of the LEKMA ‘7’ Junior High School (JHS), who had 10 points and Winifred Fianko of the Osu St. Peters Basic School,who scored eight points.

Master Aboagye received a medal, souvenirs from MTN Foundation, products from Yumvita, books from EPP Books and Afram Publications, two packets of special drinks, two boxes of Indomie, two boxes of Special Ice water and two packets of Star biscuits.

Jessica Borquaye, on the other hand, took home two boxes of Indomie, a medal, a certificate, books from EPP Books and Afram Publications, a pack of Special Ice drinks, two packets of Star biscuits, a box of Special drinks, souvenirs from YUMVITA and MTN Foundation while Winifred Borquaye recieved a medal, a certificate, a box of Special Ice water, two packets of Star biscuits, a packet of Special drinks, souvenirs from YUMVITA and MTN Foundation, books from EPP Books and Afram Publications.

Four schools; Osu Manhean JHS, Osu St. Peters Basic School, Association Community Model Basic School and Teshie LEKMA ‘7’ JHS, took part in the competition, with10 students representing each school for the contest.

Prizes for contestants

The competition is an initiative of April Communications Limited which is aimed at encouraging students in public schools to cultivate the habit of reading to enhance their level of comprehension and communication.

Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, a Journalist and the Founder of April Communications Limited, advised students to read regularly since that would enable them to learn new words and broaden their horizon.

She added that when one was familiar with words it would build their confidence and that would help them to be able to communicate effectively irrespective of where they were.

A dancing competition held as part of the day’s activities was won by Jennifer Koranteng who is also a student of the Association Community Model Basic School.

The programme was sponsored by MTN Foundation, YUMVITA, EPP Books, Afram Publications, Star Biscuits, Special drinks and water and Indomie.
