Portugal centre-right wins re-election

Portugal's governing centre-right coalition has won the country's general election, which was widely seen as a referendum on four years of austerity.

Socialist leader Antonio Costa admitted defeat and congratulated Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho.

With almost all votes counted, the centre-right leads with about 37%, with the Socialists on just over 32%.

Germany's domestic intelligence chief warned on Sunday of a radicalisation of right-wing groups amid a record influx of migrants, including refugees, as xenophobic rallies and clashes shook several towns at the weekend.

"What we're seeing in connection with the refugee crisis is a mobilisation on the street of right-wing extremists, but also of some left-wing extremists" who oppose them, said Hans-Georg Maassen on Deutschlandfunk public radio.

Maassen spoke as Germany expects up to one million migrants this year, and after protests against refugee homes and clashes with police again rocked several towns at the weekend, mostly in the former communist East Germany.

A keeper at a New Zealand zoo has died after she was attacked by one of its Sumatran tigers.

The attack by a male tiger named Oz took place Sunday morning at Hamilton Zoo on New Zealand's North Island, according to a statement posted on the Hamilton City Council website.

The statement didn't give details on the circumstances of the attack, but it said that the tiger didn't escape from its enclosure.

"Our focus at this time is on providing the adequate support for our staff and family members who have been affected by this tragic incident," the statement said.
