It would be recalled that Justice Rhodes’ wife, daughter and driver were kidnapped on their way from Lagos to attend the wedding of the justice’s daughter in Benin.

The Edo North branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) said that its members would not attend any court proceedings pending the release of the victims. The NBA branch Chairman, Mr Anthony Atemoagbon, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the victims must be released unconditionally.

Atemoagbon lamented over the spate of insecurity in the country and wondered why the judiciary was now the target of kidnappers. “It is sad that as the hope of the common man, we, members of the judiciary, have now become the target of kidnappers.

“While we task the government to do something urgent on the problem of insecurity in the country, we have resolved not to attend any court proceedings until the Vivours and their driver are released unconditionally,” he said.

NAN reports that a visit to the courts in the area showed that the courts could not sit due to the absence of lawyers.
