Speaking at the short event, Mr Sarkodee said he had been monitoring the team’s performance on the Davis Cup website and was thrilled by their resilience and fighting spirit hence the decision to host them at the hotel.

“You have made Ghana proud and I am happy that you did very well and did not complain about any financial issues when indeed there was no per diem or winning bonus” he said.

He thanked the board members of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) and the president, Isaac Aboagye Duah for their efforts to support the players despite the financial challenges they faced.

He lauded the board, especially for flying Isaac Nortey and Herman Abban from the USA to join Johnson Acquah and Benjamin Palm ahead of the tournament.

Coach Fred Egyir, on behalf of the team, thanked Mr Sarkodee for finding time off his busy schedules to host them.

The Ghanaian team, made up of US-based players Isaac Nortey and Herman Abban together with two local stars Benjamin Palm and Johnson Acquah put up a spirited performance to defeat their Rwandan counterparts 2-0 in the final to emerge winners at the seven-nation tournament.

The victory qualified the team to the 2019 Africa Zone Three Tournament to be staged later this year.
