Acquah, Nyarko excel at G.T. Oddoye Memorial Tennis Tourney

Johnson Acquah and Patricia Nyarko put up spirited displays to emerge the U-18 champions of the third G.T. Oddoye Memorial Tennis Championship which ended at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club at Ridge last Saturday.

Acquah defeated Reginald Okansey 7-5, 6-2 to win the boys category, with Nyarko also accounting for Helena Hammond 7-5, 6-0 to claim the top prize in the girls category.

In the U-16 division, Cindy Aidoo and Emmanuel Antwi emerged triumphant in the girls and boys categories, with wins over Yayrah Komashie (2-6, 6-1, 10-8) and Ezekiel Appiah (6-4,6-2), respectively.

It was fireworks in the U-14 category where Caleb Aryettey earned straight sets victory against Kwesi Frimpong (6-2, 6-3) to win the boys title, while Tracy Ampah fought back from a set down to beat over Sisu Tomegah 1-6, 6-3, 12-10 to win the girls title.

Doris Adjokatse put up a brave fight but succumbed to Sekinah Adams 3-6, 6-3, 12-1 in the girls U-12 division but Raphael Dowuona had an easy ride against Hannif Boateng with straight sets win 6-0, 6-3 to win the boys title.

Lisel Ampah and Hebert Doe Adjani won boys and girls U-10 titles with wins over Christabel Eduafo-Collins (4-2, 4-1) and Godfred Osei-Tutu (4-2, 5-3).

This year’s event, which started on New Year’s Day, attracted over 200 children from Accra, Ashaiman, Tarkwa, Winneba and Takoradi.
