Accra based hockey clubs, Royal Men and Royal Ladies of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), as well as Multistix, displayed superb performances to retain their titles at the 31st edition of the annual T. Tommy Hockey tournament held at the Baba Yara hockey in Kumasi on Sunday July 14
Royal Ladies made light work of Kumasi Ladies with a 3-0 drubbing in a competition which featured only the two teams.
A brace by Elizabeth Opoku and a goal by hardworking Roberta Sarfo were enough for Royal Ladies for a deserved revenge, having earlier lost 1-2 to Kumasi Ladies in their first clash.
However, there was an even fierce competition in the men’s event as goals from Anthony Aikins and Godsway Adai propelled Royal Men to overcome Central 2-0 to win the men’s final.
Royal Men first accounted for Independence 2-0, defeated Bibiani Stars 1-0 before dismissing Central 1-0 to book a place with Unique in the semi-final.
Central’s march to the final started with a 4-3 victory on penalties over Exchequers of Bank of Ghana, defeated Bibiani Stars 1-0 to set a date with Royal Men in the final match.
On their way to retaining the Masters trophy they won last year, Multistix defeated Citizens International 2-0 in their opening match, settled for a goalless draw with Sapholda before dismissing Kumasi Seniors by a 4-0 victory in the round-robin competition.
Other participating teams which participated in the men’s division included Porcupine Sticks, Independent Sticks, Unique Sticks and Legon.
