Sapholda Ventures, sponsor of the Greater Accra Hockey League, has increased its sponsorship package from GH¢30,000 to GH¢40,000.
Besides donating trophies for the winners of the various divisions in the 2019 Sapholda League, a cash prize of GH¢3,000 each will also be presented to the male and female teams who will win the league as a form of motivation to sustain the competitive spirit of the league.
Announcing this at a press conference at the Conference Hall of the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra, the Vice-President of the Greater Accra Hockey Association (GAHA), Mr Derrick Tamakloe, said the sponsor had also earmarked GH¢2,000 to facilitate the development of youth clubs in the region.
“ Already, the association has been supporting the youth clubs in various ways to make them vibrant so the GH¢2,000 package by our sponsors will goad us to do more for our youth clubs,” Mr Tamakloe assured.
“ We are very grateful to Sapholda Ventures for sponsoring the Greater Accra Hockey League. This is because since they started in 2017, it had gained much prominence at both the local and international levels.
Mr Tamakloe said a year after Sapholda sponsored the league, the Royal Ladies of the Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA) won the league and went on to win gold at the Africa Championships held in Accra.
He said last year, both the Royal Men of the GRA and their female counterparts won silver medals in the Abuja championships, while Police Ladies won bronze medal in Abuja.
For his part, the Chief Operations Officer of Sapholda Ventures, Mr Casely Coleman, said it was the impressive nature of the league that induced them to renew their sponsorship annually.
" We have seen a lot of progress since we started sponsoring hockey in 2017, hence our commitment to renew and increase our sponsorship packages annually"
According to Mr Coleman they started with GHC20,000.00 in 2017 and increased it to GHC30,000 in 2018 and assured to continue with various packages in future.
He said like football and boxing , hockey as a sport can be very attractive if corporate bodies supported it with sponsorship packages
