The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah has commended the leadership of the Women In Sports Association (WISA), particularly Madam Gloria Commodore, the Executive Director, for coming up with the Achievers Awards to motivate and honour female sports personalities in the country.
Speaking at the media launch of the second WISA Achievers Awards held at the Conference Room of the GOC last Wednesday, Mr Nunoo Mensah congratulated the team for their efforts and hoped that corporate Ghana would support the initiative.
He said sportsmen and women needed to be inspired to give off their best adding “a nation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for”.
He commended Ghandour Ghana Limited, manufacturers of various kinds of cosmetics, for coming on board to support the WISA.
A total of 26 female sports personalities will be honoured at this year’s event which will be held at the forecourt of the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
The awardees will be selected from various disciplines including rugby, swimming, soccer, tennis, para-sports, volleyball and handball.
Those in the media, sports administration, keep fit clubs and supporters unions will also be recognized.
In attendance were Rosemary Gaisie, President of WISA, Irene Donati, Brands and Commercial Manager of Ghandour Cosmetics, Madam Gifty Annan Meyers, a patron of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Mr, Kwabena Yeboah, President of SWAG, Mr Saka Acquaye, Director of Sports at the National Sports Authority and Emmanuel Olla Williams, Youth Director of the GOC.
