Ghana's relay teams out of Worlds

Ghana's quartet

Ghana’s male and female relay quartet failed to progress to the final at the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championship when they placed sixth and eighth respectively.

The quartet of Flings Owusu-Agyapong, Gemma Acheampong, Persis William-Mensah and Hor Halutie crossed the line in a time of 43.62 sec – a seasonal best record.

Their male quartet also comprising Sean Safo-Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Martin Owusu-Antwi and Joseph Paul Amoah also crossed the line in the time of 38.24seconds.

They also miss out on qualification to next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

West African rivals Nigeria finished one place better than Ghana in seventh position with a time of 43.05 seconds.

Jamaica were first, followed by Great Britain and China respectively.

In the male event, Great Britain finished first in heat 1, followed by Brazil and the United States of America respectively.

Africa will be represented by South Africa in the final after finishing first in heat 2.
