Golfer Solomon Allotey put up a good display against the challenging obstacles and a strong competition at the Bok Nam Kim Golf course to win the Latex Foam Monthly Medal on Saturday.
It was one of the most keenly contested events witnessed on the lush green course in recent years, as 70 golfers battled for pride and exciting prizes by the sponsors. Allotey, playing with a handicap of 14, beat off a strong competition as he carded a net point score of 66 to complete the18-hole course with 42 points and returned with 38 points.
Edward Abrokwah put up a strong finish but fell behind the winner as he finished four points short. Abrokwah, who had played with a handicap of 13, finished second with a net score of 70 points, having played 42 points in front and returned with 41 points.
Peter Ntiamoah-Mensah scooped the third prize after losing to Abrokwah on countback. Playing with a handicap of 12, he returned a net score of 70 points after he had played with 39 points and returned with 43 points.

There was an upset in the ladies event as Abena Mensah, who played with a handicap of 49, returned a net score of 62 points to win the top prize, while Beatrice Aku Dovlo had to settle for the second spot with a net score of 63 points.
Favourite Leticia Amponsah Mensah, playing with a handicap of 10, could not make her status count as she settled for the third position in the ladies category after returning a gross score of 75 points.
In the men’s Group B event, Emmanuel Sintim Asante stole the show with his handicap of 33 to net 62 points followed by Dr Ernest Asimenu who won on countback with a handicap of 16 and a gross score of 79 points. Nana Yaw Baafo grossed 81 points to settle for the third position.

Winners of each category were presented with trophies and a three-seater sofa by Latex Foam, the second placed golfers received trophies and a two-seater Latex Foam sofa while the third place players took away trophies and anti-stress pillows by Latex Foam.
Gifty Appiah, Public Relations Manager of Latex Foam, said her outfit had been associated with other sporting disciplines in the past and was thrilled to be supporting golf as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations.

Following the success of last Saturday’s competition, Ms Appiah promised a longer collaboration between Latex Foam and Bok Nam Kim Golf Club to organise more competitions while exploring ways of supporting other sports in the country.
The Vice-Captain of Bok Nam Kim Club, William Hackman, told the Daily Graphic that the Latex Foam Monthly Medal was one of the major competitions on their calendar and described it as one of their best organised and sponsored events judging from the number of competitors and the quality of prizes at stake.
