All roads lead to the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra for the 2020 edition of the Accra Kiddy Mile Races scheduled for March 14, 2020 from 7a.m to 4p.m.
According to the organisers, Activly Sports Events headed by Mrs Cathy Morton, about 4,000 kids from over 80 schools were coming for the programme.
She said six events would be competed for, including football, badminton, handball, volleyball, basketball and table tennis.
She thanked some companies whose brands had been supporting the programme, brands such as Unilever’s Omo and Blue Band, BIC, Planet, McBerry Biscuits and Dano Milk.
She mentioned that registration to participate was 40ghc, and came with a t- shirt, finisher’s medal and refreshments.
“There would be side attractions such as the mummy race, parents 50 meters dash, sack race, PS4 competition, bouncy castle, trampoline and mini golf, aside the main sports events” she explained.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), which has been monitoring the Accra Kiddie Mile Races, has commended Activly Sports Events and pledged to be part of the programme in this Olympic year.
Mr Mike Aggrey, chef du mission for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, said it was good to engage children from different homes and schools to socialise and compete for medals.
He gave an assurance that the Tokyo 2020 Committee of the GOC would be at the El Wak Stadium to motivate and support the young athletes on the day.
He urged parents and school authorities to join in the fun and also promote healthy living.
The Chairperson of the GOC Women’s Commission, Madam Elizabeth King, also commended the organisers and promised to grace the event.
