WAFA won the 2018 Next Generation trophy after beating Red Bull Brasil 2-0

The U-16 team of the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) on Saturday, August 18 emerged champions of the 2018 Next Generation tournament after beating Red Bull Brasil 2-0 in Salzburg, Austria.

WAFA’s two-goal heroes on the day were Joshue Doke and Daniel Owusu.

While WAFA qualified to the final of the competition after beating Portuguese side SL Benfica 4-1 on penalties in the semi-final, Red Bull Brasil also defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 to pick a slot to the finals.

The Ghanaians earlier beat Swiss side FCBasel 1893 2-1 in the quarter final before facing SL Benfica in the semi-final.

The team was making their fourth appearance at the tournament.

WAFA striker Daniel Owusu scored three goals to win the Most Valuable Player at the end of the one-week tournament.

According to a report on the club’s official Twitter handle, the 16-year-old striker enchanted the technical team with his skills and maturity of play to win the accolade.

Striker Daniel Owusu was adjudged Most Valuable Player at the 2018 Next Generation Trophy.
