Two Ghanaian players, Thomas Partey and Baba Rahman, aided their respective clubs to secure qualification to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League after their final group games on Tuesday.
Thomas Partey of Atletico Madrid and Schalke's Abdul Baba Rahman both qualified with their respective clubs to the knockout phase of the elite European club competition.
While two other compatriots would have to try their luck in the second tier European competition after they failed to respond to the roll call of the elite competition.
Partey's Atletico played in a goalless draw against Club Brugge to qualify while Abdul Baba Rahman replaced injured Hamza Mendyl to help Schalke O4 progress to the next stage on a 1-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow.
Kwadwo Asamoah, who started for Inter Milan, committed a howler which gifted PSV Eindhoven their opening goal before the Italian side fought back to draw 1-1. But the result was not good enough to keep them in the competition as they have been relegated to play in the Europa league.
Ricmond Boakye Yiadom, who was introduced in the 72nd minute for Red Star Belgrade, could not help his side escape a heavy defeat in the hands of French Paris Saint-Germain who won 4-1.
