Black Meteors striker, Kwabena Owusu, says his teammates were focused on winning their U-23 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash in order to secure an automatic qualification into next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Owusu, who netted a brace to secure the national U-23 side qualification into the medal stage, praised Coach Ibrahim Tanko for giving him the chance to serve his country.
In an interview with cafonline, the Cordoba FC forward noted that he was glad the team secured qualification which was their collective goal.
“I thank our coach for giving me the chance todayto play for my country. We qualified and that’s what matters most.
“Now we will play for one more victory to reach the Olympics,” he said in a post-match briefing.
Ghana sneaked into the semis of the ongoing continental campaign in Egypt on goal advantage having secured a 2-0 victory over Mali.
The win sent the team through to the last four of the competition ahead of Cameroun who was defeated 2-1 by hosts Egypt.
