Bayana Bayana star, Refiloe Jane on Wednesday earned her 100th cap for her country as she featured in their opening game against Finland in the 2019 Cyprus Women’s Cup.
The versatile midfielder has already raked in a century of appearances for her country and she hopes to take Banyana Bayana to even greater heights.
To mark her achievement, the 26-year-old midfield star was given the captain’s armband during the match to steer the affairs of the team. She was also presented with a special centurion shirt for her efforts.
Having made her debut back in 2012, the vice-captain is expected to be one of the first names in the squad when Desiree Ellis names her troops for the Women’s World Cup later this year, and the Canberra United maestro will be looking to add to her 12 goals for her country in the coming months.
Jane joins team mates Noko Matlou, Janine van Wyk and Amanda Dlamini as players who have been capped 100 times for the Bayana Bayana, and she played a crucial role in helping Coach Desirees’ side to record two important goals as they drew 2-2 with Finland in their opening game.
South Africa will face Korea DPR in their second group match on Friday.
Banyana XI was as follows:
Andile Dlamini (GK), Lebohang Ramalepe, Nothando Vilakazi (Mamello Vilakazi), Janine van Wyk, Tiisetso Makhubela, Refiloe Jane (c), Busisiwe Ndimeni (Linda Motlhalo), Leandra Smeda, Karabo Dhlamini (Thembi Kgatlana), Jermaine Seoposenwe, Rhoda Mulaudzi.
