A FORMER football administrator, Nana Yaw Owusu Akwanuasa, has urged the President of Obuasi-based Ashantigold Sporting Club, Dr Kwaku Frimpong, to rescind his decision to quit the club at a time they are performing well on both local and continental fronts.
He said Dr Frimpong should reconsider his decision and return to run the club because he was doing so well and should not allow the behaviour of Ashgold supporters to disturb him, whether for good or bad.
“Supporters worldwide have a tendency to misbehave at times, but that should not discourage the key man at Ashgold to throw his hands in the air in despair and call it quits.
“This is the time the club needs him most to sustain it in the local league which is becoming very attractive,” Nana Akwanuasa, onetime vice chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and GFA, told Graphic Sports Online.
Expressing concern about the negative behaviour of Ashgold supporters, which led to the resignation of Dr Frimpong barely a month ago, Nana Akwanuasa said such negative attitudes made it difficult for the club’s bankroller to have the peace of mind to operate.
“The Ghana Premier League has become very competitive and attractive, so losing one or two matches in a league such as ours should not induce supporters to attack management of clubs. Such attitudes are not only distractive but also destructive and have the tendency to create confusion among management, technical team and players, hence the need for supporters to accept defeat in good faith just as they celebrate in victory.
“Dr Frimpong is a good man who loves what he does best. So far, he has not only branded Ashgold to be very attractive but has also recruited quality players who are competing favourably with other Premier League clubs in the country, so he should be encouraged to steer the affairs of Ashgold at the local and international levels,” he added.
