Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, has stated that Kevin-Prince Boateng can only return to the national team if he apologises to the nation as directed by the White Paper on the Justice Dzamefe Commission of Inquiry report.
According to Coach Appiah, the national team is open to all Ghanaians so he cannot prevent any good player from playing for Ghana.
“With the issue of Kevin, I have nothing against him but according to the Justice Dzamefe’s Commission, which was set up after what happened in Brazil [2014 FIFA World Cup], it demanded that Kevin and Sulley [Muntari] should apologise to the nation but up to date, Kevin has not done that.”
“If he apologises and we are not done with our final preparation to AFCON,well , he may be considered, but if we are done then that all. However, I believe he is good player,” Coach Kwasi Appiah said at a post-match press conference on Tuesday after Ghana's international friendly with Mauritania at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana won 3-1.
Muntari and Boateng were suspended from Ghana's camp during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil for indiscipine. They were subsequently handed indefinite suspensions from the national team by the Ghana Football Association.
Coach Appiah further noted that in spite of having some players in mind for the 2019 AFCON tournament in June, his doors were still opened for new players who would prove their worth before the tournament got underway.
