Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Ghana’s representatives at the 2019-2020 season of the CAF Champions League club competition will begin their campaign with an away match against Kano Pillars of Nigeria at the preliminary stage, following the draw for the competition on Sunday.
Kotoko will travel to Kano for the first leg scheduled for the weekend of August 9 11 and then host the second leg on the weekend of August, 23–25, 2019.
If Kotoko progress from the preliminary stage, they will encounter the winners of the tie between Hafia of Guinea and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the second round to be played on the weekends of September 13 to 15 and September 27 to September respectively.
The competition date which has been reviewed to conform with Europe’s dateline, will end on a yet-to-be confirmed date in May, while the final will be a one match play-off, as part of the reforms adopted by the organizers, CAF.
Kotoko earned the right to participate in the continent’s prestigious club competition after winning the Tier One of the Special Competition.
Last season, the Porcupine Warriors were Ghana’s sole representatives at the Confederation Cup, but missed out on the money zone.
This will be their ninth CAF Champions League appearance and their first since 2015 when they exited at the first round.
