Konkori FC win Great Kantanka tourney

Konkori Football Club in the Amansie East District of the Ashanti Region were crowned champions of the Great Kantanka Birthday football tournament after defeating Boaman FC 3-2 on penalties .

A total of 10 communities in the Essumenja Traditional Area participated in the tournament organised at Essumenja on  Sunday September 9 to hunt for talents.

The tournament was also meant to foster close relations among the participating communities in the district to enhance accelerated socio-economic development

After a barren draw in regulation time, Konkori FC converted three of the penalties as against two by Boaman FC to win the giant trophy and the cash prize at stake.

On their way to the final, Konkori FC defeated Ajamasu FC 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw, while eliminating Safokrom 3-0 in regulation time in the semi-finals.

Boaman FC also accounted for Kwabenakrom FC 4-0 in their opening match, defeated Kyiransa FC 1-0 in their second match, before bowing to Konkori FC 2-3  on penalties in the final.

Other communities that participated in the tournament were Essumenja, Kyekyewere, Dominase and Sefwi.

The Kontihene of Essumenja and Acting President of the Essumenja Traditional Area, Nana Ntim Boahene, who presented the trophy and cash prize to players and officials of Konkori FC, on behalf of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, commended the players for their sense of discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

He urged them to focus on their training to enable them to realise their goals of becoming future stars.
He assured that the tournament would become an annual affair as a way of nurturing the skills of the youth who had the ambition of playing football as a career.
