Karela FC have booked their tickets to the final of the Tier One of the Special Competition after beating Ashgold 1-0 at the Len Clay Sports Stadium yesterday to set up a mouth-watering final clash against Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Striker Diawisie Taylor’s late stunner in injury time just as the match was about to go for penalties made the difference between the two clubs and helped the Ayinase-based team to keep their dream of qualifying for their continental competition on their first attempt.
Reports indicates that it was a tensed encounter which saw the host charging on their visitors right from the blast of the whistle, however the Karela defence stood to the task.
It was a ding-dong affair in most of the second half as both teams enjoyed a sizeable amount of the ball but couldn’t use it profitably.
In the end, Diawisie Taylor’s powerful shot at the edge of the box sent the Nzema-Aiyinase based club to the final of the competition.
Ashgold, who were table toppers in the Northern Zone of the NC Competition, were hoping to railroad Karela, who were runners up in the Southern Zone.
However, they were shocked at the end by Taylor’s lone goal in the dying minutes of the game which also put him in the lead as the topscorer with 10 goals in the Tier One competition.
