Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to send Leeds United top of the Championship as his late goal broke the resistance of resolute opponents.

The game was following a familiar pattern for Leeds of dominating possession but failing to find a killer blow until Nketiah was summoned from the bench in the 77th minute.

But four minutes after coming on, he had the simplest task of tapping into an empty net after good work from fellow substitute Helder Costa down the wing.

Having arrived on a season-long loan from Arsenal, it was a first league goal for the 20-year-old in his first Championship appearance as he tries to bring more cutting edge to Leeds’ fine approach work.

The win saw Leeds leapfrog Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday and regain top spot on goal difference with ten points from their opening four games, while it was also their first win in five matches at Elland Road, as they go about trying to restore their home fortress.
