Black Starlets coach, Abdul Karim Zito, is expected to name his final squad today ahead of their trip to Niger for the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament next week.
The Starlets beat Aburi Academy 3-2 in a warm-up game on Tuesday and Coach Zito told Graphic Sports Online that the game formed part of his assessment towards selecting his 20-man squad for the competition.
The team is scheduled to fly out to Niger on Thursday.
Ghana has been placed in the same group as host, Niger and Benin in the competition that also include Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, for the single slot of next year’s Africa youth championship in Tanzania.
“We have prepared ourselves for the weather; the match is supposed to start at 4pm local time in Niger, which is 2pm here in Ghana so we have also been training around that same time here in Ghana”, the coach stated.
Coach Zito also attributed the delay in releasing the final list to the result of some medicals they were expecting, as well as how to psyche the players who would be disqualified by the MRI.
“We did some medicals of which we are expecting the results so we can’t name the players ahead of that because you can imagine what would happen if the results come and a selected player fails,” the coach said.
He also mentioned psyching of the players as another reason for the delay but hinted that they would be speaking to all the players before the list would be released later on Tuesday.
