Kumas Asante Kotoko have part ways with their Norwegian coach, Kjetil Zachariassen, just five months after his engagement.
The termination of the contract was on mutual basis after the club concluded that the coach had not fulfilled his part of the contract by ensuring the team reached the group stages of the CAF Champions League competition.
Following that, management decided to terminate the contract of the Norwegian without any compensation as was stipulated in his contract.
Coach Zachariassen joined the Porcupine Warriors in July after he guided the Obuasi-based Ashgold to qualify for the Confederation Cup game during the GFA special cup competition.
He was tasked to ensure the Garden City club subsequently qualify for the semifinal of the continental club competition and then to the final in his last year of his three years contract.
Unfortunately the team crashed out of the competition in the preliminary stages and was again booted out of the Confederation Cup.
A statement by the CEO of the club, George Amoako, indicated that the termination of the contract was as a result of the coach’s inability to meet the terms in his contract.
“This is a final decision and is not subject to review. If you will recall, Clause 7of your employment contract set performance targets of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup competition which were set out particularly in sub clause 22.214.171.124 and 7.105 respectively”, the statement said
He said the decision took immediate effect and he would only be paid his outstanding salary for the month of October.
“You will be paid you outstanding salary of the month of October 2019” the statement noted.
“This letter serves as formal notice that your employment with Asante Kotoko (hereinafter known as “the club) Kotoko has been terminated as of November 13”, a statement by the Chief Executive of the club, George Amoako said.
