Black Starlets coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has named a 20-man squad which is scheduled to travel to Niger on Thursday for the West Africa Football Union Zone B competition.
The Starlets will battle for the single slot in next year’s Under-17 Africa Youth Championship in Tanzania.
The final squad was picked from a list of players who have been camping at Prampram and Coach Zito admitted the difficulty in choosing from a large number of talented players.
That notwithstanding, he said the players were psyched up before the list was released and was therefore confident that the future was still bright for those who did not get the opportunity to be part of the team.
He said he encouraged the players not to see the setback as the end of their career but a challenge to work harder because they would automatically be part of the team if they qualify.
The selected players include David Kudjo, Emmanuel Essiam, Uzair Alhassan, Mohammed Umar, Nathaniel Adjei, Joseph Addo Tetteh, Sampson Agyapong, Simon Asamoah Appiah, Taufiq Shaibu, Salim Giabo Yussif and Abdul Fatawu Issaaku.
The rest are: Hadi Yahya, Samed Abdul Karim Mohammed, Ransford Koufie, Abdul Rashid Fuseini, Clinton Quaye, Abdul Samed, Eugene Adjei Frimpong, Christian Agyenim Boateng and Ebenezer Adade.
The Starlets are scheduled to play hosts Niger on September 5, before playing Togo three days later.
The first two teams from the group will face the top two in the other group which consists of Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso in the semi-finals.
