Players of the Black Stars touched down quietly at the Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport in the early hours of Thursday without the usual fanfare.

The team arrived after being kicked out of the competition in the Round 16 stage by Tunisia in Ismailia on Monday.

Unlike previous tournaments, the Stars sneaked in quietly without any welcoming entourage typical of their return from successful international competitions.

This is the second time in recent times that the national team has returned from an international competition without being welcome by the general public after they faced similar hostile reception from the public following their exit from the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In a widely-circulated video shared on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) twitter handle, the players and their technical team were seen at the airport going through the arrival formalities without any official or fans available to welcome them.

Besides that, Andy Yiadom and Caleb Ekuban were among the players who were conspicuously absent, indicating that they might have flown back to their bases in Europe directly from Egypt while Jonathan Mensah left for USA.

Some of the players spotted in the video included general captain, Asamoah Gyan, Richard Ofori, Kwabena Owusu, Lumor Agbenyenu and Kwadwo Asamoah, among others.

The Stars camped in Dubai for three weeks before flying to Egypt to participate in the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Prior to the tournament, the Stars promised to win the trophy to end Ghana’s 37-year-old drought but they were bundled out at the Round 16 stage, leaving many Ghanaians disappointed.
