Accra Hearts of Oak defender, Emmanuel Ansong, is said to be responding to treatment after he twisted his ankle in a horrific incident at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

The player was rushed to the hospital while playing for Accra Hearts of Oak oldies during their game against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The 29-year-old left his team mates and the other players on the pitch sobbing after a tackle from Kotoko’s Osei Akoto in the second half left his foot twisted to a different direction.

It took the medical team about five minutes to lift him from the pitch into the waiting ambulance where he was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The career threatening injury notwithstanding, Accra Hearts of Oak beat their arch rivals 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 2-2 on regulation time.

Hearts of Oak took an early lead after Thomas Abbey fired from outside the box into the net and 11 minutes later, Charles Taylor, increased the tally from the penalty spot.

Eric Bekoe reduced the deficit in the 21st minute with a fine free-kick before a howler by substitute goalkeeper, Laud Quartey, gave away a cheap goal to Frank Osei after the ball slipped through his gloves.
