Columbus Crew midfielder and Ghana international, David Accam was on target for his club in the US Open Cup during their 2-3 loss to Atlanta United on Tuesday at MAPFRE Stadium.
The 28-year-old struck in the 40th minute to reduce the deficit after Brandon Vazquez short his side ahead in the fifth minute.
Vazquez who scored a brace on the day, struck first after he had capitialised on a howler from David Guzman and race down to slot the ball home.
An unmarked Miles Robinson increased the tally for Atlanta United when he run a few yards to head home from a corner kick.
But the Ghanaian gave the fans of the Black and Gold some respite in the 40th minute when he slot home from the penalty box after Harrison Afful’s earlier short from 25 yards deflected off the defense of Atlanta United.
Accam could have scored his second goal on the day in the 58th minute after goalkeeper, Brad Guzan, spills Hector Jimenez short but the Ghanaian fumbled on the rebound effort.
Vazquez’s brace came in the 65th minute after beating centre back, Alex Crognale to the far end before finishing at the far post.
However in the 71st minute Columbus Crew restored some hope when goalkeeper Guzan turned Costa Rican, Francis Waylon’s effort into the net but it was too little too late.
