Ghana’s World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa junior middleweight champion, Patrick Allotey, says he is ready to prove a point by upsetting Jaime Munguia when he challenges the Mexican for his world title on September 14.
Allotey believes his upcoming bout with the WBO junior middleweight titlist provides him with an opportunity to win Ghana another world title.
The Ghanaian pugilist has signed to fight Munguia at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, having received his first career world title shot against the undefeated Mexican.
Allotey’s world title shot came as a boost to the 28-year-old who is looking forward to announce himself to the global boxing fraternity when he mounts the ring to fight Munguia on September 14.
In an interview with the Graphic Sports, the 28-year-old Allotey said he was hopeful of making a significant impact against “favourite” Munguia despite having just a month to make that possible.
Allotey noted that he was confident of snatching Munguia’s title on September 14 as he looked forward to adequate preparations.
“I am confident of beating him to prove a point to the world. I remain the underdog but it is my responsibility to upset the world on the fight night.
“This is another opportunity to win Ghana a world title and I am focused on achieving just that for the nation,” he said.
Having defeated Frank Dodzi to win the Africa title in March, 2018, Allotey went on to make two successful defences against Badru Lusambya and Sherif Kasongo.
Meanwhile, Munguia, 22, who knocked out Sadam "World Kid" Ali in May 2018 to capture the 154 pound title, said he couldn’t wait to headline Golden Boy Promotions September 14 card as he looks to mark Mexican Independence Day with an emphatic victory.
"I feel very happy for the opportunity of headlining a card on Sept. 14," said Munguia. "That's the best date for boxing in the entire year. It's a great date for Mexico because that's when we celebrate Mexican Independence Day. I'm proud and honoured to be representing Mexico in the festival for my country. I will give my best and try to deliver a great fight for all the people and for those who will see us,” he noted.
