Regional Minister, boxing officials honoured in T’adi

The executives of the Western Regional branch of the Ghana Boxing Authority and Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) were honoured with medals by the President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Mr George Lamptey, at the Christmas Boxing Extravaganza held in Takoradi on December 28 and 29.

Mr Lamptey, who graced the occasion, decorated the officials for their commitment, dedication and determination to promote amateur boxing in the Western Region. He commended Mr Twintoh Walker, National Chairman of GBA's Regional Outreach Committee and Central and Western Regional GBA President, for his great initiative, vision, and excellent work to help promote both amateur and professional boxing in the country.

Mr Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah, Western Regional Minister and MP for Takoradi and the Chief Patron of the Regional GBA/GBF league, was also honoured with a medal and a boxing statue for his support towards the development of boxing in the region.

The impressive event, which attracted huge patronage, was part of a recruitment programme to register fresh boxers to form boxing clubs in the metro, municipalities and districts in the region to participate in the Western Regional Amateur Boxing League (WESTABOLG).  

The main bill between the Western Regional boxing team and Greater Accra's Fit Square Boxing Club ended in a 2-2 draw.

The event was sponsored by the Western Regional Coordinating Council and Western Regional Sports Committee, with support from Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Just Maxx Travels and Lawyer Fii Buckman.

Other partners include Raybow Hotel, Takoradi Hotel, Ahenfie Hotel, Electricity Company Ghana, Ghana Air Force and Ghana Police Service.
