HAVING avoided each other after their first clash in the ring, Ghanaian boxers, Brimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku and Michael Ayittey also nicknamed Ayittey Powers, are set to return into the ring, albeit with new roles at the Bukom Boxing arena on October 20, 2018.
Both boxers will trade their gloves for the mic as they take up roles on the boxing night dubbed "Asamoah Gyan boxing night."
Banku, a known comedian, will be on duty as a ring announcer during Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoes fights Namibia’s Paulus Moses of Namiba for the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Lightweight title.
The cruiserweight boxer has been named the ring announcer alongside, the famed Amin Lamptey,
An excited Bukum Banku told the Graphic sports: "I’m ready and prepared for the night. I think I will do a good job. Everybody knows that I can do a lot of things aside boxing."
“I like to entertain people and I feel there are many roles that I can do in the sport, apart from fighting.I’m happy that I have the chance to showcase my other talent,” Banku said with excitement.
Ayittey Powers, also on the night, will have a dual role, performing songs to entertain the spectators at the bout, as well as face comedian, Baba Spirit in a catchweight bout.
Asked if he thought he was a good performer and that he would be able to play out his singing role well on the night, Powers responded:”Why do you want me to let the cat out of the bag before the time? Let’s all wait for the October 20 date.”
After several years of taunting each other, Banku and Powers clashed in the ring in May 2014, the former winning the much- anticipated ‘Judgement Day’ non-title bout at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Banku, in a unanimous point decision won the fight after 12 rounds of heavy punches that got Powers dazed for most parts.
Powers called for a rematch, but Banku declined.
