The Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) lightened up with a nostalgic performance of Badminton skills in the 2019 Veterans Championship which end yesterday.
The two days event which started on 6th December saw five clubs Tesano, Kumasi, Tema GHPA, Nyakrom and Koforidua converging at the KTI auditorium as they compete for honors in the Men and Ladies Singles , Men and Ladies Doubles and the mixed Doubles ranging from the ages between 30 -80 years respectively.
The championship which features as a qualification stage for the Senior Championship to be stage in Denmark next year March, saw Dominic Ibamondor and Samuel Frimpong winning the Men Double in the 34- 39 category from the Kumasi Club C while the Men Single category of 34 -39 was won by Darkah Ocansey of Koforidua Club.
In the age category of 40-49,the Men Single saw Frank Boamah of Tesano adjudged the winner, with a combination of forces between Frank Boamah and Philip Gyamfi they won the Mens Double beating Aaron Adu and Moses Adu of Nyakrom to the top spot to be champions.
With a great performance exhibited by the Tesano players Philip Gyamfi participated in the 50-65 years event category winning the Men Singles over Sadique Boateng , while the partnership between Dr Dauda and Frank Boamah produce a great show for the Tesano lads to be victors in the Mens Doubles events. Beating Ivy Addai and Sadique Boateng for the top position.
Meanwhile Frank Boamah was crown the best player of the tournament and best Mens Double team was given to Nyakrom as they were awarded with a silver medal for their effort.
The over all best club of the tournament to went Tesano club receiving gold for thier hardwork ,followed by Kumasi club c, and thirdly Nyakrom.
The Veterans Championship officially marks the end of season for Badminton 2019, and great opportunities was offered for players to prove their worth as the season closes.
