Asante Kotoko are set to battle regional rivals, AshantiGold SC, for the B.K. Edusei Memorial Cup at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.
The game, which is in honour of the legendary football administrator and a life patron of the Porcupine Warriors, will attract a host of dignitaries.
Benjamin Kyem Edusei, popularly known as B.K in the football fraternity, is credited with masterminding Kotoko’s successes on the African continent in the 1970s during his reign as an administrator of the club.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ashgold, Mr Frederick Acheampong, in an interview with a local radio station in Accra, said though B.K was a Kotoko patron, the Miners will honour the match with all seriousness and hopefully win.

“We are ready to play in honour of the late B.K Edusei. Though we all know he was a Kotoko patron, we are determined to win the cup. For us at Ashgold, we take every match seriously, so we will approach the game with the seriousness it deserves,” Mr Acheampong asserted.
In his reaction, the Public Relations Officer of Kotoko, Kennedy Boakye Ansah, said on the same platform that the match would be keenly contested but he was hopeful that his side would be victorious in honour of their late patron.
“B.K Edusei was our patron so we want to play and win the game to honour his memory. We are sure of winning on Sunday. We cannot disappoint at all,” he stated.
The match will also be a preparatory exercise for both sides for the second round of their respective continental competitions next month.
