Thomas Agyepong has been ruled out of Ghana’s second Group F game against Cameroun on Saturday in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
A statement posted on the Ghana Football Association’s official website said that, “Further medical test revealed that Agyepong will not be available for selection for the Cameroun game.”
However, the extent of the injury of skipper Andre Ayew has not yet been communicated as the medical team of the Black Stars are still monitoring the former Fernabahce player’s condition before advising the technical team led by Coach Kwasi Appiah.
“However, the medical team are monitoring Dede’s condition and will advise the technical team regarding his availability, depending on how he responds to treatment,” the statement noted.
Both players missed the team’s recovery training on Wednesday after Ghana’s 2-2 stalemate with the Squirrels of Benin in the (AFCON) Group F opener in Ismailia last Tuesday.
Ayew and Agyepong started in Coach Appiah’s starting 11 but in the course of the game Agyepong sustained an injury and limped off the pitch, paving the way for debutant Samuel Owusu.
Ayew, on the other hand, was replaced in the 88th minute by Afriyie Acquah. He also limped off the pitch and was spotted with a bandaged right ankle as he boarded the team bus after the match.
