Over 200 players are expected to compete in the Greater Accra Draught Association (GADA) Inter Area Gala Competition which is scheduled to take place at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

The event, which is organised in conjunction with the Greater Accra Regional Sports Authority, will have about 50 Draught clubs from various areas in the region competing for glory.

At stake will be a trophy for the champions, prizes for the second and third positions as well as some cash prizes for other deserving contestants.

Players from areas such as Ningo Prampram, Teshie, Nungua, Tema, Ashaiman, Darkuman, Dansoman will all come and justify their abilities which may potentially put them in the regional team ahead of the inter-regional competition which will be organised later.

David Addy, the organiser of GADA, told the Daily Graphic that the competition was to formally bring all draught players in the region together and give them a common platform to compete among themselves regularly.

“The intention of this particular competition is to officially register all draught players with the association and also familiarise with other players. It will also help us to select a formidable regional team to compete against other regions,” he noted.

Interestingly, the event will present an opportunity for young players to compete with other top players such as Ben Lakai, (the first ever national champion) and other national champions such as George Afrifa, Mensah Mantey and others.

The Regional Sports Director, Mr Richard Iddrisu Ewuntomah, will be among the dignitaries invited to grace the competition.
