The Mirror offers stakeholders the ‘Volta Experience’

The Mirror, Ghana’s most popular and biggest selling weekly newspaper, offered the public an unforgettable experience in the Volta Region, reputed to be one of Ghana’s best tourism destinations.

Known as the ‘Volta Experience — the Afadja and Wli Falls Adventure’, the event came off last Saturday, October 17, 2020 and it’s part of activities to climax the 70th anniversary celebration of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), the mother company.

As a family newspaper, The Mirror used the occasion to promote family bonding and relaxation as it exposed participants to interesting tourist sites in the Volta Region.

The ticketed event was in partnership with Cheezzy Pizza, formerly Eddy’s Pizza and Sunseekers Tours.

Excitement
At the start of the journey each patron was provided with a rich breakfast. There was a police escort from Accra to the destinations.

The tourists were welcomed by the Liati Wote townsfolks, home of Mountain Afadza and Tagbo Falls.

The team arrived with a lot of expectations

After being told the history of the mountain, the tour guide, Mr Justice Yeboah, laid down the ground rules for climbing the 885 metres (2904 feet) mountain, the highest in Ghana.

According to him, it would take more than 45 minutes for one to be able to climb the mountain, and advised those who had health challenges not to attempt to do so.

Some of the guests who made it to the top of the mountain expressed excitement and praised God for the strength and glorified Him for His handiworks.

Drive visibility
According to the acting Assistant Manager, Events and Promotions of GCGL, Mr Zekeri Hussein, who was also the main organiser for the trip, the event was meant to drive visibility and traffic for The Mirror brand.

“It is also to reinforce The Mirror’s position as the lead weekly newspaper in the country which promotes tourism,” he said.

He added that patrons were excited about the whole trip arrangements, and asked that the company promoted more of those.

And they finally got to the peak of Mount Afadza

In the coming months, Mr Hussein said the company would be organising another tour to the Ashanti Region for stakeholders to explore the rich cultural heritage in the region.

Brief history
Mount Afadja is the highest mountain in Ghana, standing at an elevation of 885 metres (2,904 ft).

Afadzato was coined from three words — Afa, meaning war, Dza, itchy plants, and To, mountain.

Therefore, it is usually referred to as Afadja.

The mountain is located in the Agumatsa Range near the villages of Gbledi and Liati Wote in the Volta Region of Ghana at the Ghana-Togo border.

It is one of the most visited tourist sites in the Volta Region, welcoming thousands of visitors from around the globe annually.
